Stories from the record
Extending Insadong's street upward
Choi Moon-gyu's Ssamziegil opened in 2004. Its idea of Insadong came from meeting people and browsing small shops, not only traditional decoration. The street continues inside the building.
A walk that gradually climbs
A gently sloping route circles the courtyard. Rather than changing floors in one jump, you rise while browsing. Notice when the ground floor begins to seem far away: circulation is the central architectural idea.
A large opening among small shops
The courtyard connects views between levels. People see one another across paths and stores, making many small spaces feel like one place. Examine railings, widths and open space as well as the goods on sale.
