An island at the middle of Hangang Bridge, with river walks and cultural spaces.

Why choose this place

For seeing the Han from an island: from the middle of the bridge, compare the cityscapes on both riverbanks.

Make the most of your visit

Look for a spot where the two riverbanks offer contrasting views, and check current event and venue information.

Stories from the record

Story 01

A sandbank shaped around a bridge

The area was reshaped during bridge construction in 1917. It was not always a natural island of today's form. The bridge crossing it records how the island and transport infrastructure developed together.

Story 02

Recreation and changing plans

Boating, swimming and winter skating were once enjoyed here. After changing development plans, it reopened as a music-centered cultural space in 2019. Different generations imagined different uses for this small river island.

Story 03

An enduring place to watch sunset

Facilities and programs may change, but the river view remains central. Compare traffic crossing the bridge with people pausing on the island. Passing over the river and staying to observe it meet in one place.
