Stories from the record

Story 01

Shops gathered near the city gate

The area's commercial history reaches back to government rental shops established in 1414. Traffic through the gate made it a useful trading location. This does not mean every present shop has operated continuously since then.

Story 02

Administration brought goods and traders

The later Seonhyecheong office managed tax goods, encouraging commerce, brokers and lodging around it. Markets grow through transport, administration and logistics together, not simply through individual shopkeepers.

Story 03

A market that reopened after fires

Several major fires struck in modern times, yet merchants resumed trading. Walking through specialized alleys, remember this history of recovery. Behind souvenirs are people still moving and selling goods every day.
