Ewha's education and daily-life complex uses glass walls on either side of a descending passage to connect building and path.

Why choose this place

For architecture merging with the ground: compare views from above and below the path between glass walls.

Make the most of your visit

Compare views from above and below, and respect campus access rules and ongoing classes.

Stories from the record

Story 01

Opening the ground instead of building upward

Dominique Perrault's ECC opened in 2008, using a valley-like passage and underground spaces. At the campus entrance, the open cut in the ground is as prominent as the building itself.

Story 02

An empty center connects the campus

The central route joins the city and university. Glass walls admit light and views to lower spaces. Compare looking up and down the passage to see how the design connects surrounding elements.

Story 03

A roof becomes usable ground

Gardens above the building return space for walking and rest. Architecture and greenery overlap. It is an active university as well as a photographic landmark, so respect permitted areas and the learning environment.
