Stories from the record
A park prepared for international games
The park was developed for the 1986 Asian Games and 1988 Seoul Olympics. Sports venues, open spaces and historic remains were planned together. Its scale reflects preparations to welcome athletes and visitors from around the world.
A Baekje fortress among stadiums
Mongchontoseong is far older than the sports facilities around it. Its rounded earthworks are historical remains, not simply landscaping. Imagine their defensive and residential context while walking through the park's overlapping eras.
Look beneath the World Peace Gate
Kim Chung-up's gate was completed shortly before the 1988 Games. Its broad outline is striking from afar; columns and decoration emerge up close. Consider how the structure expresses peace beyond competition.
