Stories from the record
A landfill beneath the silver grass
Nanjido received Seoul's waste from 1978 to 1993. The high ground was not simply an existing mountain turned into a park. Its history gives the beautiful grassland a different meaning, linked to the city's discarded materials.
Stabilizing the land before planting
Work from 1996 to 2002 addressed landfill gas and polluted drainage before the park could take shape. The greenery depends on engineering and ongoing care; pollution did not simply disappear by itself.
Walking on land the city discarded
Haneul is part of World Cup Park. Looking over the city from its open grassland links consumption with recovery. Enjoy the view while considering where today's waste goes: landscape can make environmental history tangible.
