Stories from the record
The riverbank as a shared front yard
Yeouido's river park connects a busy office district with places to rest. Workers and visitors share lawns and paths. Notice how roads and changes in level separate distant river views from being close to the water.
There was a village on Bamseom
People lived on Bamseom before it was blasted in 1968 to supply material for Yeouido's development. The island seen from the park carries the memory of a displaced community. The two places have connected histories.
Watching an island recover
Nature later returned, making Bamseom ecologically important. You do not need to enter it to appreciate it. Observe the island and birds from the riverbank, reading development and recovery in the same landscape.
