Stories from the record
A waterway uncovered beneath roads
Restoration began in 2003 and finished in 2005, transforming a covered stream and elevated-road corridor into a waterside route. Today's stream reflects modern reconstruction and management, not an untouched Joseon waterway.
The memory of an old bridge
Remains such as Gwangtonggyo were studied and brought back into view; its restoration was completed in 2005. This was more than landscaping: it uncovered records beneath the city. Distinguish older stonework from new paths.
A bridge was also a meeting place
Traditional activities around Gwangtonggyo included bridge walking, kite flying and lantern events. Bridges supported social life as well as crossing. Compare those uses with people gathering beside the stream today.
