Stories from the record

Story 01

Houses brought from across Seoul

Opened in 1998, the village brings together five relocated or reconstructed hanok. These homes did not always share one neighborhood. Checking their original locations turns a visit into a journey across different parts of Seoul.

Story 02

Different households, different plans

The houses vary in scale and arrangement according to their residents' lives and status. Compare kitchens, rooms, wooden halls and courtyards. Furnishings and circulation reveal more about domestic life than roof shapes alone.

Story 03

Relocation is not always reconstruction

Some work retained older materials, while badly deteriorated houses required recreation. Not every building was moved intact with all its original parts. Read the distinctions between relocation, restoration and reconstruction to understand how heritage is carried forward.
